Auto backup of iphone photos to Mac

Hi, I'm new to Mac but a long time user of iPhone, having trouble making the switch! Back on my PC I could use iCloud for Windows and in the settings have that back up my photos taken on my iPhone to a directory of my choice (on my NAS for example) My wife could do the same and her photos would be stored in a separate directory. I'm trying to replicate that functionality on the Mac and can't figure out how to do it. Can you help?

(in brief) I want all the photos (new ones only preferably) automatically backed up to a directory of my choice on my NAS connected to my Mac
