    Dear folks,

I have an iMac (late-2013) with the following configuration:

    Processor: 3.2 Ghz i5
    Memory: 16GB 1600 MHZ DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForece GT 755M 1024MB
    RAM: 24GB (2*4 + 2*8)
    Storage: 1TB SATA

    (benchmark with default RAM: redacted
What I am planning to upgrade is one of those two:

    3.8GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
    Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz
    8GB 2400MHz memory, configurable up to 64GB
    2TB Fusion Drive1
Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB video memory
    Two Thunderbolt 3 ports
    Retina 5K 5120-by-2880 P3 display

    (benchmark: redacted

    OR

    3.5GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
    Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz
    8GB 2400MHz memory, configurable up to 64GB
    1TB Fusion Drive1
Radeon Pro 575 with 4GB video memory
    Two Thunderbolt 3 ports
    Retina 5K 5120-by-2880 P3 display

    (benchmark: redacted ed

I use this computer for motion graphic works. Main softwares are After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.

    What would you suggest?

Does it worth to go for 3.8 Ghz and PRO 580

    OR

Go with 3.5 and PRO 575 and put some extra RAM up to 32GB with the extra money?

    Cheers.

If your current Mac is getting the job done then I recommend you upgrading the hard drive only.

2017 iMac 5K versus Mac Pros

I have the 2017 iMac with the 3.8 Ghz Radeon Pro 580. I think it is a great machine. I don't have a lot of experience with any of the software you use, so I can't say if they use the GPU for anything, but if they do, the 8GB of RAM on the faster GPU would seem to be handy & useful thing. System RAM can easily be upgraded later on the 27" iMac. Hard drives can theoretically be upgraded, but it is a non-trivial thing. CPU & GPU can not be upgraded later. I think you'll be happier with more CPU & GPU over the long haul. As a side note, buying an iMac from Apple's refurb store is a good way to save a little money. The stock changes in there all the time. https://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac

I’ll always recommend the best option/specs that is available as it is an investment for the future at the end of the day.
