When I open WhatsApp on my computer, can anyone tell me why I always a screen that says 'trying to reach phone' even though my phone is switched on

Since the desktop based WhatsApp is not a standalone application, it's sort of a mirror. So if the phone isn't connected to the Internet via a good data or wifi connection, the service won't work. So the problem might be with either your phone connection or your computer connection. Mere switching on the phone won't help. Hope this helps.
