I recently just bought a 5K iMac and ever since, my MBPr has been sitting around gathering dust and not getting my music and videos updated. Is there a way, (possibly through time capsule or something) that I can have everything I do on my iMac show up on my MacBook. So the software, settings and data are the same across both devices?

If it's software installed via the AppStore then use Preferences, AppStore and check the box for installing software purchased on other Macs.
Settings in general between the two, I don't think so.
For music the best I can suggest is to use iTunes Match.

Maybe think about using Remote Desktop software to access the iMac from the MBP.

+ 1 iTunes Match for Music sharing.
And Tonido seems is a good choice to access and share your Mac's files: Tonido for Mac | MacUpdate
