I'm wanting to purchase extra iCloud storage. I use my main Apple ID for purchases. It's wanting me to add a separate payments method from my main Apple ID.

Is there a better way to do this or do I have to have two payment methods? One for my main Apple ID and one for my @iCloud account?

The way we have it set up is we use one Apple ID for app and song purchases. Then we have separate iCloud accounts. I have all my purchases information set up with the main Apple ID.

If you're buying storage under the iCloud account that's unique to your device, it will have to have a payment method of its own on file... unless you're using FamilyShare, which will default first to any store credit from gift cards on the individual AppleID, then to the FamilyShare founder's payment method on file...

So would it be better to set up FamilyShare for my iCloud account?

Or should I set up a separate payment method for the iCloud account?

If you're not using Family Sharing, then it just needs a payment method all it's own. One way is not better than the other.

iCoud storage isn't shareable beyond devices using the same iCloud/AppleID... my iPad & iPhone are sharing the same iCloud storage under my AppleID.

Unless you buy a lot of extra iCloud storage, it's not a good idea to share an iCloud account with family. Everything gets mixed up and you "share" the free 5 gb. With separate ID's. You each get 5 free gb of iCloud storage.

For some reason it wouldn't let me set up FamilyShare. I went ahead and just added its own payment info. It kept giving me this message.

I appreciate the help and replies!!
