iCloud storage question

am new to tech so bear with me !

as to storage of e-mail in iCloud if once a message is sent to trash and gone forever does it then get deleted and no longer stored in iCloud so that if you don't keep all mail from the beginning of time then you'll never go over the free 5GB of storage is this a correct assumption.

correct... Trashed messages are automatically deleted every 30 days (per iCloud.com). thus once deleted, it should not count towards your 5GB limit.
