3gs to 4s using icloud or itunes. Help

What is the best way to sync the old data from my 3gs to my new 4s?

Would it be to use the itunes sync to back up the 3gs and then use itunes and restore from backup on my 4s

or

download ios5 on my 3gs and use icloud to upload everything and then use my apple id on the 4s to get the apps and stuff on the 4s?

My suggestion is to be safe, backup your 3gs then update your iphone 3gs to ios5 and make another backup with itunes. Then just restore the backup from itunes when you get your 4s. If you have a lot of data that will be faster than downloading from Icloud. Also having both phones on ios 5 may help you in case something goes wrong.
