Can anyone tell me what the problem might be in that I cannot access my HomePods remotely?

Some are reporting that changing wifi from 5Ghz to 2.4Ghz fixes this. Don't ask me why.

I would suspect in that case the lower barrier penetration in the case of the 5Ghz might be a factor, particularly if there are brick or stone or concrete internal partitions.

Reporting back to mention that after disabling 5ghz on my router thereby only allowing 2.4ghz that the problem still exists.

Do you have iCloud Keychain set up?
Using 2 factor Authentication?
Restart wifi?
Bluetooth turned on?
If you've done all you can, maybe it's time to contact Apple Support.

Yes all that stuff is set up and enabled. I’m not heartbroken I can’t control them remotely. Just get irritated when something is supposed to work and it doesn’t.

I had this issue when I tried setting up my HomePods on Tuesday. Boingo wifi is the default option in my apartment & I found out it blocks peer to peer connections. I couldn’t even AirPlay from any of my devices. I’ve only lived here for 3 weeks, so I just noticed. Since that was going to be a problem for me, i scheduled service with Verizon. They came today & as soon as I switched networks everything worked perfectly. Not sure if this is the same issue you’re having, but I thought I’d share.
