I'm not sure I understand the question. If your hub needs an update, you should probably be able to do that, check the website of the manufacturer for info on how to update it. iOS 11 IS in the process of being updated since release it has received 2 or 3 minor patches, and the next major patch 11.1 is in beta.

OR are you using the phone as your hub?

I don't know that I've ever had the Apple Home app tell me that my hub needs an update. However, often if I'm having trouble controlling my Hue lights via Siri or HomeKit, when I go into the Philips Hue app it tells me that my Hue hub has an update, and installing the update restores HomeKit/Siri functionality to my Hue lights.

Open the app for the hub in question and try updating via the app.
