Why is my Instagram direct " seen" icon not showing up ?

The "seen" icon has completely disappeared in Instagram direct. I have tested it between my 2 accounts, plus I have had a friend read a test message from me and the "seen" message or icon is not there for any of them. Does anybody know why or how to fix this?? I have an iPhone 6s Plus

I think its am instragram issue I have that with some of the people I message as well

Does Instagram know about it? Are they working to fix it or is it supppsed to be gone?
