Tim Cook tweeted this morning that "We are heartbroken for the French people and those around the world for whom Notre Dame is a symbol of hope. Relieved that everyone is safe. Apple will be donating to the rebuilding efforts to help restore Notre Dame’s precious heritage for future generations.🇫🇷"

Stories about this on both MacRumors and 9 to 5 Mac.

I mean I think Apple could technically afford to do this AND lower prices, lol. Now we know they won't...but they could lol.

Not gonna happen. France already received more than 800 million Euro which is enough to finish the fix and renovations.
They expect to be done within 5 years.

On the contrary, by not donating for a already fully funded repair / rebuild of the Notre Dame, you now have more money to spend on an actual party.
    You’re welcome by the way

Well, if there really is enough money to rebuild/restore Notre Dame, that is fantastic. I just think that Tim Cook's gesture was very touching!

Gucci donated 100 million and Luis Vutton topped that with 200 million euros. Apparently there is already close to 1 billion donated.

Look at all of these rich companies donating such large sums of money to this cause...

This world could be a vastly different place if that same energy went into other efforts lol.

Yep, that’s the general consensus. People are flabbergasted that Africa and other countries get 20 million in donations at best. It’s horrible but it’s those companies’ money. We have no say in how they spend it.

In regards to the money donated, it's fantastic that three people/corporations are being so generous. It is too bad that this doesn't happen to help with world hunger and poverty, and all the other causes that we care about.

I agree with that observation though. That’s without question.
Apparently some disasters are too far from their home, so it’s less important to donate to.

Seriously. I understand the historical aspect of Notre Dame and how long it's been around. But that thing ain't one of the Seven Wonders Of The World.

I expect the money donated by Apple would amount to much less than $1 per device they sell in 2019.

No, but it might have been somewhere in the top 20 wonders.
