I am thinking about getting into video editing. What would be the best way to start? Do I start with iMovie or jump straight to FCPX? My devices are:

iPhone 7 plus, 12.9" iPad Pro, & late 2013 15" rMBP with d/gpu.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. I'm just going to be doing this on the side kinda for fun at first, but who knows after that.

I would start with iMovie. It has a lot of tools to get you started and the outcome of the videos are pretty solid. Once you play with iMovie and decided you like video editing then you can move up to more pro tools.

Right now the FCPX package with Logic Pro and three others, one for logic and two for final cut are on sale at the Mac App Store for $199 for all 5 items. FCPX is $299 by itself.

Downloaded the free trail for FCPX, going to see how it works with iMovie than I'll open it. They say your trail doesn't start until you open it. You have 30 days to try it.
