iCloud Photos -Shared Albums

If someone shares me a photo album through iCloud (shared albums), those photos are automatically downloaded into my library or do I have to download them manually if I want to keep those photos / videos no matter what happens afterwards with that shared album? Thank you.

Shared albums are not downloaded. If you want to keep them you will need to save them. If the person who shared them removes the pictures from the album then you will no longer have them on your device.
