How do I select receive receipt for texting on iPhone?

I want to know whether my text message has been received by another.

Unfortunately iOS doesn't support receipts for text messages.

I don't know the thought behind this, but it has been this way since the first iPhone.

Only if the recipient is also on an iPhone and both of you have iMessages enabled, you can see receipts for messages.
