Getting into a family plan?

Hello. I wanted to ask if i join A family plan that had 4 phones already but 1 got out am i illegible for the phree phone ? Can i pay my phone bill separately from the other phone holders or does it have to be all together ? Will the main person who started the family line get access to my messages ?
