Trackpad and Mouse battery life, why does it seem to eat it up so much?

Trackpad and Mouse battery life

Just throwing this out there: as successful as Apple has been with maximizing battery life on iPhones, why does the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad have such a verocious appetite for batteries? It's ridiculous.

I use my Magic Mouse a lot and really never take notice to the battery usage. But I use rechargeable batteries and always have two sets ready to go. I have been using the same rechargeable for over 5 years now. So I guess you know where I am headed with this.

For the amount I use my mouse I find the battery usage to be decent. Not excellent.
