I have an iOS that is intermittently not receiving texts. How do I correct this?

I have an IOS that is intermentinly not receiving texts.

It is inconsistent depending on who tries to send me a text. Sometimes they show up, sometimes not. And with some texts I send they show up as emails. Home do I correct?
