I can't hear tones when dialing or typing

when dialing my phone I can't hear the numbers dialing.

Like Just_Me_D said check the volume level. If that is not the issue, do you use headphones? If so, do the following. Insert your headphones and extract them quickly. I say this because my daughter had the same issue and we did that method and it fixed. If that doesn't work did you try and restarting your iPhone?
