I know that texmessages from an iPhone with updated skin tones in emoji's can appear as the 'ailien in a box' on iPhones with older versions of iOS.
But can this 'ailien' also appear when a text message is sent from a Black Berry?

Welcome to iMore! Theoretically, if the BlackBerry is sending a character that the iPhone doesn't recognize (much like iPhones with versions of iOS prior to 9.1) then it is possible that it could come through as the alien in a box character that you're referring to. This is pretty unlikely though because iOS 9.1 and newer are all updated to recognize the latest Unicode characters.

    Thanks!
I've got an iPhone 4s that doesnt find Later versions of IOS than 7.1.2 (?) when searching for updates.
Will connect it via cable to My iMac air nd see it can be upgraded from there...or perhaps my phone is just to old for the later version?
