How do I safely eject iPad from iMac?

Normally when I want to disconnect a USB from my iMac I go into Finder then click on the device then click on eject. However, when I did this with my iPad, it's not listed in Finder so how can I safely disconnect it without risking either it or my Mac?

I have never had a problem just unplugging it, no need to eject like an external drive, thumb drive, etc.

There is an eject option via iTunes.
