why does a gray bar keep covering the box that shows what I am typing in my text message

randomly while texting with someone a gray bar will cover the return text space so unless its a long message thats bigger than two lines you can't see what you are typing untill you send it so far the only way I've gotten rid of it is to power off the iphone and then turn it back on. but it keeps coming back

It's a bug. Closing & reopening messages clears it
