Why doesn't the 'trashcan' always appear when I try to delete individual text messages?

The 'trashcan' doesn't always appear when I try to delete individual text messages.

I know to hold on the message and the option comes up to select individual texts, but the trash can does not always appear below.

Thats weird I have never had this problem- try rebooting your device when this happens and see if that helps

This happens to me some. Swipe messages app out of the multitasking tray. That works for me.
