I fear the above might not ever happen, given the way things are trending right now.

You never know, there is still a market for the small screen, or should I say phone.

It depends if it's cost effective to refresh it. I'm curious what the line up will be next year. 6,6plus,6S,6S Plus,5S,5C? Or will the C drop off.

I see it happening maybe later than sooner

Look at the Samsung phones they shrunk a few in the past. When the market calls for it we will get a retro size upgrade but I don't see it happening in the next cycle seeing how well the 6 and 6+ are selling

Then I would probably be holding a iPhone 5s just in case I ever still want a smaller iPhone...

Anything to get a smaller sized iPhone for future generations , I don't mind if it is plastic polycarbonate...

There's definitely a market for the 4" screen with all the newest hardware. Pay and etc.

But would people still buy them if the norm has become more than 4 inches throughout?

To take a page out of Jerry Hildenbrand, if no one is going to buy them no one is going to make them.

I've found that most people I know don't want a huge screen. Us forum folk do. But there are a lot of people, mostly women, who would rather have the smaller screen. And it's more than one would think.

I still like the aesthetics of 5s than 6. If they refresh 5s with a bigger screen, you have my money Apple!

Maybe if they just bump it to 4.5 inch for the low end, I would gladly get a iPhone 5s refresh...

I personally don't look at the 5s as a "low end" iPhone.

With bigger screens and bigger builds, Apple are going to price the 5s lower just based on costs alone.

Doubtful, if anything, they will just keep selling it as an even cheaper model as it ages.

They wouldn't have 2 phones that close in size for a "refresh"

I doubt they would make 3 different sizes with the same A9 chip next year all with the same design language.

Pretty much what you get now. Next year, the "S" year, the 4-inch phone gets a plastic shell with the A8 chip of now. The 6C. I really don't think the 4-inch form factor will go away anytime soon. It would have been great if they made the iPhone 6 in a 4-inch for those who didn't want to go to a bigger screen. But to have the same design language was probably just not cost efficient for what Apple sees on their books.

Apple can keep the 5s around for awhile with an A7. Next year I'd bet they drop the 5c; end of line for 32 bit. Then lower the price on the 5s and 6. While starting to sell the 6s and 6s plus with A9 chips.

In 2016 we see the iPhone 7 in 4",4.7", and 5.5-6" sizes with A10 chips.

I would doubt they would refresh, but who knows? I know I'd continue to buy the larger phones though, I wouldn't want anything smaller than the 6 is right now
