First iPhone? Which one did you get and what device did you have prior?

I love talking tech and have had a history of switching devices multiple times a year. I am currently in love with my iPhone 5s, although still see visions of the Blackberry Z30 tempting me to give that OS another play. Which iPhone do you have? What phone did you have prior? Any tech junkies, how often do you switch devices each year? Last year I went through 6 devices.

iPhone 5S...had a 5. As far as personal phones, haven't had anything BUT iPhone's since the first one was released. Before then, it was primarily Blackberry's and once dabbled with the Palm Treo 700 (which was probably the worst phone I have ever owned personally). Going back even further you'd find a slew of Sony Ericsson phones, and the typical Nokias before then.

I started with Motorola phones... the DynaTac brick phone... eventually got a StarTac which, until my iPhone experience, was my favorite phone of all time. Eventually I migrated to BlackBerry phones... and got my first iPhone in 2010 - the iPhone 4. I have since managed to collect the entire iPhone collection from the original all the way through the current 5S. I have a SIM adapter and like to move my current SIM into the original iPhone and use it sometimes, just for grins. I get some pretty interesting comments...

I get a few phones a year but I'm a tech junky. My very first phone was in 2002/3 when I was in middle school. Had a flip Motorola, then it went to my Sanyo obsession. Motorola razr for a while then I went into the sidekick lines until that died. Between that time I was switching between iPhone, blackberry and android. Blackberry died, I stuck with android for a while (still owning an iPhone, I've never missed owning a model yet). Now I'm solely stuck on my iPhone. Uhm... Let's say I've owned all of the high end devices for each brand, including HTC and Samsung (whom I didn't mention above) Yikes....

Oh, but I have the 5S and before I had the 5. Forgive me for my ramble. Lol

I currently am using the the 5S and prior to this I had the iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, 3G.

During my spell with the 4S and 5, I also tried the following for a maximum of 2 weeks each: HTC Rezound, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 3. The draw that keeps taking me to android devices certainly is not android as an operating system. I much prefere ios and its app store too. I am in the camp that longs for a larger screen. I find the screen on the Note series to be too big for me however.

Also, even though you will find tech blog after tech blog saying that the 1136 x 640 retina display is 'outdated' when compared to the 1080p screens of the S4 and Note 3 type devices....when side by side I find the clarity, crispness, and sharpness to be much better on the iphone....let alone the more accurate colors of the LCD display and brighness level of the screen.

I'm currently on an iPhone 5s. Had the 5 and 3GS, and before iPhones had a blackberry curve and a HTC Fuze. The iPhones have been by far my favorite, with the Blackberry second. I have been upgrading every year lately. If I continue to or not depends in what comes out.

My first phone was in 1995-96. It was a Nokia I think a brick type phone. It was on Bell Atlantic Mobile now ATT
Then I didn't have anything for 2 years imagine that now no cell phone.

Then I had a prepaid flip on Voice Stream.
Then a few small Nokia bricks on ATT.
The Motorola V60 a few Motorola V3 Razors. Then iPhone 1,3GS,Blackberry Tour,HTC EVO 3D,iPhone 4S,iPhone 5S.

No switching for me it's iPhone or bust.

I moved this thread to the general Apple discussion forum since it pertains to more than iPhone 5S members. That said, I had the iPhone 5 before I got the 5S and loved it. I'm still a bit of an Android fan even though I recently went all Apple by getting my first rMBP. I'm the type of person who really enjoys new technology and isn't afraid of trying new things out no matter who manufactures it. When the new Nexus 5 comes out I can totally see myself putting my 5S aside for a bit so I can take it for a test drive. I would even give a Windows device a try if they would only improve their App store. The only thing that I will never go back to is Blackberry. I gave up on RIM apron selling my old BB Bold and will never return to that OS again..... Nice idea for a thread btw. :)

My first "iPhone" was the iPhone 3G. I skipped the 3GS in lieu of Blackberry, specifically, the original Blackberry Bold 9000. Although the iPhone 4 looked amazing, I opted to take a stab at Android by getting the original Droid Incredible. After that, I bought the HTC EVO 4G, but I soon returned to the iPhone by purchasing the beloved 4S. I now have the iPhone 5 and I have no plans of leaving the iPhone anytime soon.

Great stuff everyone, I know that I am not alone with my tech addiction. Funny how I always end up back on a iphone. I too am in the screen size camp, just want it to be larger. However I have to wonder if a larger screen iphone would keep me engaged for the whole year.

iphone 5. Iphone 4S before that. Started with a Treo 300. Moved up list with every Palm phone (only palm OS, not WM) including the Centro. Dabbled with a Pre and webOS and considered it better than the iphone 3G at the time. But the faulty Pre had me running to the updated iphone 3GS after swapping out faulty Pre's like 15 times. Loved the homebrew and webOS..it remains my favorite OS used.

But the iphone 4 sealed the deal and never looked around after that.

First one was the 3G. To be honest, I can't remember what my phone was prior to that. I think it may have been the BB Pearl or a Samsung clamshell phone.

My first cell phone was in the mid 90s, a Nokia, it was a brick. Then a NEC, LG's and Samsung flip phones. My first smartphone was a BlackBerry Pearl 8130. I had a Curve 8330, Tour 9630, Bolds 9650 and 9930. Now I have a 4S. Probably going to get a 5S next.

I know there was also a Palm Treo somewhere in there... I think a Treo 600 or 650. It still had an external antenna. But I can't even begin to nail down when I had it. I've spent more money on early termination fees than on actual hardware. lol

Oh I'm not going to jot down every mobile phone I've ever owned. That would take me back to 1989. I think I've done that already in another thread a while back.

I would also like to see a slightly larger iPhone in the future, but not if it meant having to get rid of easily slipping it in and out of my skinny jean pockets. That wouldn't work well for me as I live in these things during the winter months.
