Time to upgrade! Get an iPhone 12 mini + Unlimited Data for $60/mo
- My iPhone is a BRICK! What do I do? I registered my UDID with the Developer Program, and I try to restore it to 4.0 with iTunes on my windows computer, and it say "This iPhone cannot be restore. Error 13" So what the heck do I do? I tried to restore back to 3.1.3, and it won't let me. Tried to restore to both 3.1.3 and 4.0 on my Mac, and it won't let me!! What do I do? When I tried to restore back to 4.0, my Mac just kinda stuck on "preparing to Restore". It didn't freeze, just stayed on that screen.
HELP ME!04-08-2010 09:42 PMLike 0 - How long was it stuck on your mac? It took me a few minutes for any sort of progress to appear when I was updating to 4.0.04-08-2010 10:22 PMLike 0
- I had the same problem with error 13. It was just a black screen. I powered off the phone and was able to turn it back on which put it into recovery mode. iTunes detected it and restored it to 3.1.3. I then decided to do the update on my MacBook and everything worked fine.04-08-2010 10:46 PMLike 0
- I had the same issue. Make sure your running iTunes 9.1, that was my issue.
Now if only I could get wireless to work..04-08-2010 10:55 PMLike 0 - I believe its a windows issue. Everyone keeps mentioning its working fine on their macs... And everyone on windows 7 especially is running into the error 13. I lost my jailbreak and everything awesome on my phone for a stripped 3.1.3.04-08-2010 11:17 PMLike 0

- Its partly a Windows issue. You'll get the same error if your not running iTunes 9.1 on a Mac though. I spent 3 hours restoring my phone before I figured that out lol04-08-2010 11:32 PMLike 0
- You're not reading it right. A beta version is available for developers only. However I am sure you can find it somewhere though if you know where to look. Don't come crying on here if you find it and it bricks your phone. It's beta, not GM. However feedback on it if you are successful would be appreciated and welcomed.04-08-2010 11:55 PMLike 0
- You guys do realize the way to ACTUALLY load an unofficial OS onto an iPhone as a developer is through Xcode and NOT through iTunes at all.
iPhone 4.0 is not at all compatible with iTunes of any version (yet). You need to download the .dmg for 4.0 from the dev portal, open XCode AFTER you have your UDID on file, choose to use the device as a test device, select other version for software, and navigate to 4.0 and load it THROUGH XCODE, NOT through iTunes. That is where a majority of people's problems are coming from. Once you do this, then click use as test device again in XCode, and after that, close XCode and finally go into iTunes and sync like normal.
For those of you on PCs, I'm assuming you were added by a friend or another dev. I know using iTunes is your only option, but keep in mind, that is NOT the way it was meant to be installed, and anyone who is a "dev" should have an intel-based mac for this stuff, which means you would have XCode and you'd be able to install it the proper way without all these error codes and issues.
That's the chance you take when installing an un-official version the incorrect way. Apple states on the website not to use iTunes to install a beta OS version, but to use XCode, as it installs differently.04-09-2010 11:32 AMLike 0 - I wish I had read this before I gave them 99 bucks, last year they installed fine right through itunes on windows. I have a feeling its a no refund policy too (thinking what can I sell on ebay to buy a mac mini with). It would be nice to put some of the things I learned in programming classes to use.04-09-2010 01:09 PMLike 0

That's like saying you'd develop for Mac on a PC and vice versa. Not the best solution, and probably won't work.
They aren't installing correctly because the file system changed in 4.0, with 3.0 I do not believe it did. Therefore, iTunes is not at ALL compatible with 4.0 - installing it through iTunes will screw with your file systems and make your phone incredibly laggy or just plain make it a brick.04-09-2010 02:54 PMLike 0 -
You will get NO support from Apple having a beta OS on your phone, UNLESS you have a development license.04-09-2010 02:56 PMLike 0 - You guys do realize the way to ACTUALLY load an unofficial OS onto an iPhone as a developer is through Xcode and NOT through iTunes at all.

You have a developers license now, call Apple. They'll tell you that you have to have a Mac to install properly.
As far as installing through Windows, sure, you can force iTunes to install it through a few simple command line prompts, but you'll have LOTS of issues. I can almost guarantee that.
People keep complaining of lag and general slowness and errors, people who installed it the correct way and for a justified reason, are not experiencing those errors.04-09-2010 05:27 PMLike 0 - Well that's completely on you. I missed my jailbreak, so i wanted to go back. Did some soul searching and found this. I pointed itunes to suriks servers to use my shsh's on file. upgraded to 3.1.3, but the install hangs up. ran blackra1n RC3, and itunes activated the the phone. I then restored to 3.1.2, and the same thing happened, ran blackra1n RC3 again, and the phone booted on 3.1.2 non jailbreak. I then used redsn0w 9.4 and pointed it to the 3.1.2 ipsw file and it jailbroke the phone. I am now back to normal with my 3.1.2 jailbreak after 4.0 install trial. This took about 3hours tinkering with it. But it did work. You will have to google for steps to point itunes to suriks servers, and I was using the latest version of itunes. Also this was done on a mac. Hope this helps. It is poss. to go backwards.04-12-2010 11:20 PMLike 0
