I was wondering can 3.1 beta brick my iPhone permanently? I am a registered dev.

Yes. any beta can permanently brick it. That's why they recommend only using it on a testing model. You should not register as a dev just so you can d/l the betas.

While it is theoretically possible, it is HIGHLY unlikely. The software has already been through the alpha stage, where that type of thing is more likely. Also, if it did brick your phone, it is not likely to be permanent, only until the next beta release when you could put your phone in DFU and restore to the next release.

So you are a registered developer but you are not, your friend is.

Either way, it doesn't sound like you should be messing with betas.
