On my windows phone I would see 3-5bars at home (unlocked Lumia 920), on my LG g2 I would see 5 bars every where and most 3-5 at home.

On my iPhone 5s I am seeing 1-3 bars and never see 5 bars even if I am standing next to a tower.

Is this the phone? On my windows phone I would see up to 30mbps on my iPhone 5s I seeing 15-20mps on average. Was wondering if other people are experiencing this. I still get 20mbps at 2 bars.

The bars are signal strength for calls and have nothing to do with your download speeds. You also may want to reboot your phone to see if anything adjusts. Since each device has a different manufacturer, keep in mind that because there is no industry standard what Apple deems as 3 bars may very well be deemed as 4 bars by LG and 5 bars by Nokia. If your call quality is good, I would't worry about it.

You can go into field test mode on your iPhone and do some trickery to make the db numbers persist. I don't know the code off the top of my head but it's readily available on Google.
