I'm planning to switch from AT&T to Verizon. Since I have to purchase a different iPhone to switch, I'm guessing (...hoping?...) that my plan will be cheaper if I pre-purchase a refurbished Verizon ready iPhone 4s instead of buying one from my local Verizon store when I sign up.

I haven't approached anyone from Verizon regarding this idea since I assume they'll tell me this can't be done with the hope of selling me their more expensive iPhone.

Has anyone else switched carrier plans bringing in a pre-purchased iPhone, and what issues (...if any...) did you encounter?

If you're going on contract bringing a phone from outside won't help because you'll still be paying the contract rates which include subsidies for the discounted purchase of the phone.

The only advantage to the OP's plan to buy a Verizon variant iDevice to establish Verizon service is they can be month-to-month on service and not on a contract... there is no 'discount' on service for having hardware.

However, do ask about employer discounts with Verizon for services and accessories. I get one through work and it's about the only perk my company provides.

The easier way to do it would be to go to verizon. com and select activate device. They will ask for the MEID, and you can port your number and pick your plan. I believe you will be month to month.
