So I just did an observation here in my local zip code (72701) after I thought I wanted to switch to a RAZR MAXX on Verizon for the battery life, android os, etc, etc (I get this urge every so often, but seem to be coming back to iOS all the time). Even though my area is an LTE area, I decided to turn the LTE off and test apples to apples on Verizon's 3G network with Sprint 3G network. My latest test showed the following:
Sprint iPhone 4S- Ping- 279ms; Download 0.78Mbps; Upload 0.65Mbps.
Verizon Droid Razr Maxx- Ping 220ms; Download- 0.14Mbps; Upload 0.37 Mbps.

Still not what I would like, but in that test, it did beat Verizon!

The area that you are conducting your speed test has a lot to do with the results that you get. I'm guessing Verizon doesn't have as strong coverage as Sprint does in that area based on your results.

Actually, Sprint is one of the worst carriers coverage wise here in northwest Arkansas. AT&T is our number one, followed by Verizon and I haven't observed a difference between T-Mobile and Sprint.

Wow....never thought this was going to be possible on a Sprint iPhone:
Ping: 300ms
Download: 1.21 Mbps
Upload: 0.57 Mbps

Sprint's 3G can be fast(see pic). Granted it is slow as a whole, but this is the reason why I can be patient with them. They are actually working on upgrading their towers and will hopefully see LTE with a 100Mb download speed backbone(Verizon has only a 50Mb download speed backbone) in my area(Springfield, Missouri) around January with UNLIMITED data! All those that switched to AT&T or Verizon will soon regret their decision.

I live in Miami (Kendall) by tamiami airport. I'm actually close to a tower. I've been hearing and reading that Sprint will soon be deploying better 3G and LTE here. I know many who are already picking up eHRPD. I'm constantly doing speed tests. Check out these speeds I picked up this morning when I was walking my dog. I hope Sprint's LTE in Miami will soon be deployed. Im using an iPhone 5.

Yeah but LTE hasn't been deployed here yet. As you can see I was on 3G...shouldn't it have switched to LTE? I have my LTE turned on. If these are the constant speeds ill be getting with sprint on LTE I won't be switching to Verizon then 😄

Here's 3G vs Wifi at home

3G is half the speed of my (very slow) wifi connection and LTE blows it out of the water, but I'm happy with my 3G speeds.

Just for fun, here's LTE. I've had better speed tests but this is right now, in my living room :)

Those LTE speeds are nice. I hope deployment in Miami is coming soon. With speeds like that I won't be switching to AT&T/Verizon no more.
