Just got a text message from AT&T

AT&T Free Msg: Avoid data overages. Get an extra 2GB for just $20 more per mo if you have DataPro 2GB. Plus you'll be able to tether your laptop or tablet to your phone when WiFi isn't available. Call now to get DataPro 4GB or go to att.com/getmoredata

I guess it was more of information. Has this plan always existed, or is it something new they are trying? I thought they charged $40 to wifi tether, but now it seems $20 for extra 2GB and tether.

This doesnt make sense!! I get 2G now for $20 and if I go over, they automatically give me another 2G for the same $20.. so thats $40 for 4G. same?

I have this data plan because I tether my iPad to my iPhone..before I got the iPad I had the 2GB data plan which is $25/month. The 4GB data for $45 basically just adds $20 more to my monthly bill

I thought they only gave you an additional 1GB for $10 if you went over the 2GB, at least that's what they told me when I had 2GB. I have the 4GB with tethering now just so I could get rid of my air card, saves me $30 a month on my total bill.

When I go over my 2gb...they give me another 1gb for $10.

No, not same. The $45 includes mobile hotspot, with 4 GB to split between phone and tethered devices.

I still have unlimited data so overage isn't an issue for me but do I still need a tethering plan if I wanted to tether? Not that I need to since I have a plan on my iPad and a mifi for my MacBook but someone was asking me that question. (We travel a lot in an RV and I'm paranoid about not having internet.)

I wonder if they will throttle you after 2GB even with the 4GB plan (like many others are experiencing)?

No they wont. You are paying for that data. And a FYI, I have never been throttled. No I dont use 10 GB's a month but use 2-3GB's. My data never once has been throttled for exceeding 2.

Just curious as to what kind of speeds you are getting Garz? Sorry for the hijack.

Geez. I think I'm going to schedule an appt with GB. If for no other reason than to find someone with the same phone on AT&T so that we can do a side by side comparison.

It depends on your area. Im in a major market so my speeds will be better than so e areas.

I'm getting the same in Western Cleveland ... 5-7 down and 1.5-2 up BUT I've seen the dl almost at 10 down - it was 5am granted but still impressive lol

I would consider the Columbus market to be equal to Cleveland and I've NEVER had those kind of speeds. :( I'm averaging 1.8 mbps up and .40 mbps down, from home, and unusable at work (smack in the middle of town w/ supposed best coverage).

That's surprising - I was in Grove City in Nov and got 4-5 was pretty sure lol
