Why is my Apple Watch Series 2 using my iPhone's location?

Hi Rene,

I've just had an Apple Watch Series 2 and I'm still trying out all the new features.

Series 2 supposedly has its own GPS and doesn't need to rely on the iPhone's, but when I was testing maps and workout out yesterday, I realised it was using my iPhone's location. Why is this? When I turned location to 'never' for the app on my iPhone's privacy settings, maps refused to work on the watch, as did workout.

I'm quite disappointed by this; I liked the idea of using maps on my Watch in the reassurance that my iPhone's battery wouldn't drain, what's the point in giving the Series 2 its own GPS if its going to piggyback off your iPhone anyway?

Thanks in advance.
