When I open an image or PDF with Preview and rotate it or modify it, I often find the file changed on disk afterwards. I never selected save and, in fact, when I do actually choose to save it takes much longer to save than these autosaves take.

I googled and tried all the methods proposed, including

defaults write -app 'Preview' ApplePersistence -bool no

but nothing seems to bother Preview, it still ignores my wishes and decides itself whether to save a file or not.

How can I make Preview follow my commands?

Since your question is almost verbatim to the one found via the following link, maybe the remedy shared within will work for you.

Found that, did that, quoted it in my question. It doesn't work.

Can you try it on your machine and see if Preview accepts your command?
