Not looking promising. They do need a mid-range without having to buy an earlier model.

According to mainstream media, and the Apple haters, Apple is, and always will be doomed!

I think Apple should at least consider getting back into the midrange market. With MSRP prices trending up, you can't always expect year over year sales to always increase.

If Google continues the a series of Pixel, they’ll dominate the mid range market. I suspect Samsung will follow in the next couple years. So Apple will have to do something, whatever they decide something is.

Trouble brewing for Apple?

It would definitely be wise for Apple to get into this market but we all know Apple doesn’t know the meaning of budget or mid-range. Time after time they get the price wrong for most consumers.

There's rumor of a new 5.4" iPhone similar to the SE, but edge to edge style screen. If true, the price would likely be lower than the XR. Maybe not $400 though.

Google isn’t ever going to dominate the market with their phones. They just aren’t good at the phone thing. There are much better android options than the pixel a series. And I’m someone who has owned several nexus phones and tablets as well as pixel offerings. The tech boys just love to talk about that camera. It’s slow as mud and nothing special except in low light. Apparently they take all their pictures with the lights off and never of anything that requires any speed. This is of course my opinion.

Re: Trouble brewing for Apple?

Honest question, what is "mid-range"?

In my mind, low range would be in the $400 range and below. Mid would be up to around $800, maybe? Above $800 and now you're in the top tier devices from Samsung and Apple.

The XR comes in around $750. Is that not considered midrange?

I’m thinking so.

I agree with you but I think the majority disagrees. From what I’ve been reading, I think people consider 400-600 midrange, since a lot of them think paying a grand for a device is excessive. People also don’t look at the XR as having a midrange price. It’s just considered the least expensive iPhone.

Couldn't agree more, especially if one considers the wide price ranges offered by Samsung across its spectrum from Galaxy A on up towards Galaxy S...
With iPhone one must also consider storage capability eg I had to decide between 8Plus/256 & XR / 64. at really the same price. Mind you that was here in Barbados but the same basic principle applies anywhere. Whether  should command a premium price 'just because' can be debated ( and will be debated) far & wide.
