How can I prevent apps from opening from links?

I go to a site, and tap a link. It opens in the app not the browser. Happens in Safari and other browsers. I used to be able to disable this "feature" by tapping something in the top right, but that's gone now. Is this at all possible, or is Apple's privacy not what it claims?

It's not private if I'm on a site, and Apple let's the app know I was redirected from another site if I intentionally didn't want to use the app.

Not sure when the App Store became the default to viewing content that has a 3rd party app as an option.

When I tap on an app link from within Safari, a prompt asking “Open in App Store?” appears on the screen and I can choose either “Open” or “Cancel”.

This happens to me sometimes when I tap for iMore online in Safari. It takes me to the iMore forums app instead of where I want to go on iMore in Safari. It is frustrating.

It’s so weird because I don’t get this option all the time. Only about 50% of the time.

Agreed! If I wanted to go to the App I would have gone to the App!
