Read messages requires I unlock phone when using bluetooth on Xr?

On my previous iPhone, the 8+, I could have my phone locked and say into my bluetooth headset 'Read Notifications' or 'Read Messages' and it would read them through my Bluetooth headset.

With my xR, running the same beta version of 12.2 (currently beta 4), I have to unlock my phone in order for Bluetooth to read my messages or notifications.

Granted, this might be a new default that I just have to set, but if it isn't, why has this changed? It's irritating.

It’s more than likely a matter of privacy. I know I don’t want anyone to be able to put on my Bluetooth headset and then have Siri read my private messages to them.

Try to go to settings>notifications> then change preview from when unlocked to always and see if that helps.
