Why is my phone system taking so much space I don’t even have space for my own stuff anymore??

Why? Because that’s how it is. Either offload some of your stuff in lieu of the items you need most or prepare to purchase another iPhone or a different smartphone brand that has a sufficient of storage space for your needs.

It’s not system space. iOS isn’t that big so you just have to clear some stuff.

Not normal. iOS takes somewhere around 4 GB, so I suggest you clear some space too, like I suggested OP.

Doesn’t take much these days to fill up a 32 GB iOS device. I have a 32 GB iPad and a 32 GB iPod Touch for my kids and they’re constantly running out of space. I’m hoping Apple moves to a 128 GB minimum and introduces a 512 GB iPhone this year.

Delete old text messages? Make sure it’s set to delete after a month is one way to help some. Not exactly sure what all falls under the system section.

Make sure you keep the Recently Deleted photos album cleared out. Delete apps you don't use. Delete emails with photos and videos.

Go to settings / general / iPhone Storage and wait for everything to load.

As you can see, I have almost 30 gigs of 128 used, most of which are apps and photos. I have almost 7 gigs of photos.

Now if I scroll all the way down to the bottom, you'll see the actual system amount is only about 10.4 gigs:

So your actual system size should hover around 10-ish gigs. Maybe you need to offload some photos and apps?

UPDATE
Just cleared out some older iMessages and system went down to exactly 10 gigs.

Your message is on a old page. Just go to the double document double tab and look for the msg page showing your oringonal msghbyou were working on. Select copy and paste in a knee message document
