‘How to add new mailboxes on iPhone and iPad’-

Having followed the instructions on how to make a new mailbox on iPhone I got stumped at the first hurdle….
‘Unable to Create Mailbox - The mailbox couldn’t be created on the server’

So why is that and what do I do now please?
