How do I retrieve a message when I flip down the notification

I was looking at my inbox on email and a phone message (not an email) came in exactly at the same time as I flipped down the emails to get the latest (ie causing emails to go to "Connecting"). So i flipped down the message notification inadvertently and the alert sound stopped mid-sound. I cannot now find that message. It is not with other messages and appears to have disappeared completely. Where can I find it?

Welcome to iMore! If it was deleted from notifications, it's likely gone. Check your iMessages, Facebook, Twitter, or anything else it may have been. There's no telling what it might have been. If it's anything important, you'll find out. What all do you have set to show in notifications? Has to be one of those. Weather update?
