What's a reasonable iPad to but for a 7 year old?

He uses it to watch a lot of youtube (but won't need his own WiFi), plays Minecraft (own worlds, not online), and shoots occasional video. I'm thinking ipad2 with 16gig memory. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks!

The iPad 2 is a good device, but a seven year old might find it a trifle heavy. How about the iPad Mini 4, which supports the latest operating system.

Nope. iPad 2 is too old for ANYTHING, even for a 7 years old boy.
My son (7 years old too) is using my old Mini 4.
The form factor fits his small hands better than mine.
A 32 GB Air 2 could be a good choice, if you want a larger model.
Avoid any 16 GB iPad since the storage space would be too tight

An iPad 2 or newer should suffice, in my opinion.

100% agree with this.

Both of my kids currently have Mini 2's. They did have iPad 2's at one point, but over time the form factor was just too big. The result was each ended up with a broken screen. I would go for a Mini 2, 3, or 4 for smaller hands 32 GB minimum...

Like stated above. The iPad mini I think would be best. Smaller child means the mini would feel huge to them. Plus they're cheaper.
