    Hello,

I would first recommend you create an iMore Forums account so we can discuss further. What specifically are you seeking to do? You mention that you want to use iCloud Drive just for backup but you also state you don't want to routinely store documents in iCloud Drive. Are you looking for a way for your items to automatically backup in iCloud? If so, that's not really possible. You can utilize the "Optimize Storage" option which will create Documents and Desktop folders in iCloud but that's not really a backup solution. That's just another storage option. You can manually migrate your files into iCloud as a backup method but that requires you to consistently do it yourself.

You can also explore the Backup And Sync option that Google provides. That will give you more of an automated experience for backing up your data. You an also utilize the Time Machine feature for consistent backups.
