Two phones - Trying to avoid creating a 2nd Apple ID

I know if two iPhones are signed into the same Apple ID they will populate iMessages simultaneously, but is it normal for recipients of messages from the second phone (att mobile share) to show that they come from my main line phone number? Shouldn’t they show they’re coming from that phone’s number?

You can specify that in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive per device.

I looked bro that setting but was afraid to uncheck one number and check another because I wasn’t sure if that was it; and if ping so would mess with the sending and receiving of messages on my X. But I did it after you pointed me that way too and it worked.
