Will it work without a sim card?

My friend gave me her old iPhone 6 but she could not remember the password so we had to hard reset it and it erased everything, as expected, and now it is saying that we need a sim card to activate it, is there a way to use it without a sim card, like an iPod until I am able to get a sim card and pay for service? It wont let me do anything.

Yes it is possible. But first in order to active the iPhone you need to put a sim card in it. If not, it won't let you setup the iPhone. After you've set it up you can simply remove the sim card.

Yes it will work .. I would just use a friends or relative SIM card just to activate the phone sign in apple icloud then take it out give it back and use it with wifi.. that's what I did. I don't pay for a line . There are apps like text free and messenger to use for calling and messaging. I love you can face time anyone that has iPhone and not have to pay 50-60 bucks for a line.
