If I rip a cd music album to 256kb using Windows Media Player, will it sound identical to the iTunes version in terms of sound quality and will it take up as much space (if they're identical). Or should I rip it to a higher Kbps to achieve itunes sound quality?

It’s all about what format you’re ripping to. What software you use to do that doesn’t matter. And like with almost everything, the higher the better.

256 is what Apple uses, but between Apple and Windows, it could always very slightly in terms of quality. If you rip the same CD to either iTunes or WMP, I think it should take up the same amount of space. I’ve tried building a library of 320, but 256 sounds mostly the same in car stereos, and it takes more space too. So I just use 256 and it sounds great.
