Does it suffer the same chipping problem as the iPhone 5? Specifically talking about the space grey model.

I think this basically depends on how hard you are on your phones. Gentle wear and tear over time without using a case, or even using a case, should keep your phone in good shape over the amount of time you have it.

If you're extra hard on your phones it's an entirely different story.

No it is not an issue. The way the aluminum case is anodized today is different from when the 5 was made.
