How is it possible to damage an internal antenna on an I phone?
The antenna is an internal part of the phone yet the Apple Store informs me that a broken antenna is the reason for my phone not working. How is this possible?
They estimate $300 for the cost of the repair. My question is; have others experienced this problem? How did you deal with it and why should I have to pay to repair something internal when they admit my 18 month old phone is in mint condition?

18 months old?
Do you have Apple Care +? If not, the standard iPhone warranty is one year. Your phone is outside that. Hence, you would need to pay for repairs.

I can't answer that question. The only people to truly answer that is the people at the AppleStore.
Have you asked them? What was their response? Clearly they think you're (partly) responsible for it. Ask them why'd they think that.
