how can i close an app running in the background on my IOS-4 phonemaking it discharge quickly?

I have an IOS-4 phone that has started discharging rather quickly. My daughter said to go to this site to get an answer and that she had it happen when she had this phone and that is what she did to get it working properly again.

If you mean iPhone 4 phone you need to just double click on the home button then swipe it upwards, if more apps are open you can close them the same way. In the end you will be left with just the main screen.
