They don't need Siri. You can control them with your phone instead. I may be wrong on this, but I believe most ships have wifi now, don't they?

Last time I took a cruise, on board internet was VERY expensive, not sure if that is still the case.

AirPods work over Bluetooth. They will keep working, whether you're in the middle of the ocean or in the middle of the dessert.

It's true that Siri needs internet, but your AirPods don't need Siri to function.

You can set the AirPods to play/pause when double tapping one, instead of calling up Siri.

And you can manage songs like usual, on the screen of the phone.

To be fair it was about 15 years ago, WiFi wasn't really a thing at that time! OR much of a thing.
