When I plug my iphone 5s into my desk top, it doesn't sync. it says an invalid response was received from device. Where do I go on my phone to set that up

Unlock your phone, an alert should pop up, asking whether you want to give permission for access on your computer. But you need to have iTunes on your desktop to sync it.

Download itunes to your computer. Then plug your phone into your computer and it should say downloading drivers for your iphone. Once that completes you should see your device near the top left of the iTunes app. Down on the bottom right you will see the sync button.
