iPhone 5 or iPod Touch gen 6 for my kids?

I

iMore Question

I am not going to let my young kids use the phone function, will only be using facetime, messaging, and apps for games via Wi-Fi. Should I go for an iPhone 5 (cost effective) or a new iPod Touch (more expensive but newer). Kids won't be getting phones for phone use for at least 2 years. Thanks!

If you can swing it, I would definitely go for the newest iPod Touch. It has a two generations-newer processor: the Apple A8 (versus A6 in iPhone 5) plus much faster memory so it will be able to handle games and the like much better (I assume your kids play games like mine). The iPod Touch newest gen also has a much better GPU which has 4 cores. It's actually a pretty capable little device. Battery life and display resolution are identical. Overall form factor is largely the same, although the iPod touch is slightly thinner. Anyway, that's just how I would decide.
