would like to unlock my iPhone and see date and time somewhere on the screen

Can you not see the large date and time displayed on the lock screen of your iPhone?

Once your iPhone is unlocked, pull down from the top of the screen to reveal the widgets. You will see the time at the very top of your screen and the date just below it in very large type.
